Dear All,
The Pak Ciks were resplendent in their Baju Melayu, the Uncles were ready for a
good bash in their colorful batik shirts, the five sports cars were waiting, so
were the Cadillac of Elvis Peter Presly and the Jaguars with their 'chauffeurs'
at the ready, the Volvo P1800 SST(Simon Sundram Templer), the mighty minis of
Sam and Jack, beetle of James Hisham Bond and the evergreen Austin of England
(do they have Austin of Japan?) were all ready to roll. The Pak Cik and Uncles
were grinning from ear to ear. Well why not ? After all it is Fathers' Day and
they have every reason to celebrate. Let us go boys and paint the town red. Not
just yet. Breakfast first at the posh Blue Wave Hotel at Shah Alam. The occasion
was to honour the twenty fathers of the Sri Kayangan Old Folks home at Cheras.
Blue Wave Hotel, Selangor Medical Centre and with a string of other sponsors
played host. Members of MSVCR were at hand to give our honoured guests their
drive of the new millenium.
Continental breakfast was sumptous at the Blue Wave and every one was in the
mood to celebrate. The sports cars with their open tops could be seen through
the windows of the restaurant. The Pak Ciks and Uncles were stealing glances at
the sports cars of their era as if to say "Hey! Guys I want to ride in that
sports cars". Well if I could read their lips they were discussing as to
who should go into which car. The police outriders were also ready. Breakfast
done, everybody headed to the vintage and classic cars for a photograph session.
There was a scramble to get into the cars of their choice. Of course the open
top sports car were the favourite choice. My two seater 300SL finally ended with
three passengers. What can I say. It is their day and as long as they are happy,
I am happy. I can feel the vibration of excitement emitting from my three
distinguished guest. By the way the combined age of my passengers is more than
two centuries. Good thing you have not added the driver. Otherwise it would be
slightly more than a quarter of a millenium.
It was a beautiful morning and the equally handsome vintage and classic cars
rolled escorted by six police outriders. Pretty lasses by the roadside waved
from far but as the cars got nearer to them, they just gave a big giggle at the
handsome passengers. The drive to Selangor Medical Center took about twenty
minutes and throughout the drive TV3 mobile crew in their van were busy
capturing the event on their video cameras. On arrival we were given a rousing
welcome by staff of the Medical Centre and ushered to the foyer for the
ceremony. After a short speech our distinguished guests were each given a
Father's Day present. Members of MSVCR were also presented with a token of a pen
each. The Father's Day Cake was then brought in for the cake cutting ceremony.
Befitting of the occassion a military ceremonial sword was drawn and held by
those around the cake to cut the cake followed by a thunderous applause. The
guests were then taken on a guided tour of the medical centre. The day came to
an end with a delicious lunch hosted by the Selangor Medical Centre.
In all it was a good day for all. To members of MSVCR "Well done boys"
and it was a nice feeling to be a father. Well if you are not one yet, what are
you waiting for he! he! ;-)
Cheers
CE
